Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Opens to ₹101 Crore on Day One, Narrowly Misses ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Record
Mumbai, August 27, 2026: South Indian superstar Yash has set the box office on fire with his much-awaited film Toxic, which reportedly collected a staggering ₹101 crore nett across India on its opening day.
Despite negative reviews, delays and controversy surrounding certain scenes, nothing appears to have stopped the film’s strong theatrical run. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic hit cinemas on August 26 and opened during the Onam holiday, delivering a massive first-day performance.
According to early box-office figures, the film recorded an estimated ₹101 crore nett collection in India, with the Hindi version emerging as the biggest contributor at around ₹55 crore.
The original Kannada version reportedly collected below ₹25 crore, despite registering an impressive 89 per cent occupancy throughout the day. The Telugu version also performed strongly, while the Tamil and Malayalam dubbed versions recorded comparatively lower numbers.
Toxic also reportedly surpassed the opening-day performances of several major blockbusters during different phases of its first day. The film is said to have crossed the full-day collections of several big releases through its morning, afternoon and evening shows.
However, Yash narrowly missed the biggest Indian opening of 2026. Dhurandhar 2 reportedly remains at the top with an opening-day collection of approximately ₹103 crore, leaving Toxic just a few crores short.
The film also could not surpass the ₹116 crore day-one record of KGF: Chapter 2, which remains one of the biggest opening-day figures in Kannada cinema.
The anticipation around Toxic was evident even before its release. Advance bookings reportedly began just five days before the theatrical release, with more than 18 lakh tickets sold worldwide, generating around ₹60 crore in pre-release ticket revenue.
About ‘Toxic’
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action thriller stars Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria.
The film received an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate from the censor authorities without reported cuts and was released theatrically on August 26, 2026.
With a powerful opening and strong audience interest, Toxic is now eyeing an even bigger weekend at the box office.
