Yamaha R2 Set for August 27 Launch in India
NEW DELHI, AUGUST 27, 2026: Yamaha is set to introduce its much-anticipated R2 sports motorcycle in India today, marking a significant expansion of its R-series portfolio. The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed August 27 as the launch date, while pre-bookings for the new motorcycle are already open.
Positioned above the popular R15, the R2 is expected to offer enthusiasts a more powerful entry point into Yamaha’s fully faired performance motorcycle range. The company has released teasers showing an aggressive design inspired by the R-series, although final specifications and pricing are expected to be revealed at the launch.
Yamaha has kept the mechanical details under wraps. Industry reports expect a 200cc-class liquid-cooled engine, with output potentially around 25 horsepower, but these figures remain unconfirmed until the company’s official announcement.
The motorcycle is expected to compete in the entry-level performance segment against models such as the KTM RC 200. Reports suggest an estimated price around ₹2 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh, although the final figure will be announced by Yamaha.
With the R2, Yamaha is looking to bridge the gap between the R15 and larger-capacity motorcycles, giving Indian riders another performance-focused option.
