WEST BENGAL BRACES FOR RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS
KOLKATA, AUGUST 27, 2026: West Bengal is set for another spell of unsettled monsoon weather on Thursday, with rain and thunderstorms expected across several parts of the state. The latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates that weather conditions will remain particularly active over both North and South Bengal.
In Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at many places. Heavy rainfall is possible at isolated locations in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may affect several districts.
The situation in Gangetic West Bengal is also expected to remain unsettled. Thunderstorms, lightning and squally conditions are possible on August 27 and 28, with the possibility of heavier rain and thunderstorms continuing into the following days.
In Kolkata and neighbouring areas, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Temperatures are likely to remain around 32°C during the day and 27°C at night, keeping conditions warm and humid.
The combination of persistent monsoon moisture, cloud cover and intermittent showers could affect road travel and visibility in some areas. Residents, particularly those in districts under rainfall and thunderstorm warnings, are advised to remain cautious during periods of intense weather.
Overall, August 27 is likely to remain wet and humid across much of West Bengal, with North Bengal facing a comparatively higher risk of heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms remain possible across wider parts of the state.
