The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm at isolated places in Jhargram and Purulia on August 24. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph may occur at one or two places across South Bengal, while East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas could experience stronger winds reaching 40–50 kmph.

The heavier rainfall threat in the northern districts is expected to become more pronounced later in the week, particularly across parts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurduar.
⚠️ COASTAL WARNING
The IMD has warned of squally winds of 40–50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph, over the North Bay of Bengal and along/off the West Bengal and Odisha coasts through August 24. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these waters
🚨 PUBLIC ADVISORY
Residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in open areas. The IMD has also highlighted the possibility of temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpasses, while lightning poses an additional risk.
