Kolkata, September 2: Weather conditions across Kolkata and several parts of West Bengal are expected to remain unsettled today, with cloud cover and intermittent rain likely to influence daily life. The India Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorm and lightning activity over Gangetic West Bengal on September 2.
The weather situation is linked to a well-marked low-pressure area positioned over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards towards Jharkhand and neighbouring regions during the next 48 hours, keeping atmospheric conditions favourable for further rainfall and thunderstorms.
In Kolkata, the day is likely to remain mostly cloudy, with occasional rain and a possibility of brief spells of heavier showers. Temperatures are expected to remain around the low 30s Celsius during the day, while humid conditions may continue to make the weather feel warmer than the actual temperature.
Across South Bengal, scattered rainfall and thunderstorms are possible, while residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert to sudden changes in weather. The forecast indicates that thunderstorm and lightning activity remains a key concern for Gangetic West Bengal today.
In North Bengal and the Sub-Himalayan region, rain activity is expected to be more pronounced. The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places, with heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations in districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar.
For commuters, the combination of rain, waterlogging in low-lying areas and thunderstorms could temporarily affect road movement in some locations. Residents are advised to remain attentive to local weather alerts, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds.
The broader weather pattern suggests that the influence of the low-pressure system will gradually shift westward, with rainfall activity expected to change across the region over the coming days.
