Piyush Goyal to Visit US for G20 Trade Talks

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 27, 2026: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to visit the United States in late September to attend the G20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee, with India-US trade negotiations expected to be a key focus of the visit.

Goyal is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the ministerial. The talks come at a crucial stage as New Delhi and Washington continue negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement aimed at expanding market access and strengthening economic ties.

The two-day G20 Trade Ministerial is scheduled to begin on September 30, with the United States holding the G20 presidency this year. Beyond the bilateral agenda, Goyal is likely to engage with trade counterparts from other major economies on issues affecting global commerce and investment.

For India, securing better access to the US market and ensuring competitive conditions for Indian exporters remain important priorities. The two countries have already made progress in negotiations, but differences over tariffs, market access and trade barriers remain.

Goyal’s September visit could therefore provide an important opportunity to narrow those differences and give fresh momentum to the proposed trade agreement.
