Mitchell Starc Takes No. 1 Spot in ICC Test Bowling Rankings

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 27, 2026: Australia’s pace spearhead Mitchell Starc has reached the summit of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings for the first time in his career, replacing India’s Jasprit Bumrah at the top.

The landmark follows a match-winning performance against Bangladesh in the second Test at Mackay, where Starc produced a remarkable 10-wicket haul, returning figures of 6/12 and 4/39. His devastating spell helped Australia secure an innings-and-51-run victory and earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.

The 36-year-old left-arm fast bowler now leads the rankings with 872 rating points, ahead of Jasprit Bumrah on 862 and New Zealand’s Matt Henry on 861. Starc’s previous career-best position was second, making the achievement another significant milestone in his decorated Test career.

Bumrah’s latest stint at No. 1 lasted two months, while his combined 697 days at the top remains the most by an Indian bowler.

Starc’s rise to the summit reflects the consistency, experience and match-winning ability that have made him one of Australia’s most formidable Test bowlers. With his latest performance, the veteran quick has added another prestigious achievement to an already remarkable international career.
