India Stands by Flood-Hit Nepal, Sends 62 Tonnes of Relief Materials

KATHMANDU | AUGUST 29, 2026

NEWS DESK: Upholding its long-standing tradition of standing by its neighbours during times of crisis, India has once again extended humanitarian assistance to Nepal. Following devastating floods and flash floods across parts of the Himalayan nation, the Indian government has sent approximately 62 tonnes of relief materials to support the affected population.

The relief consignment includes essential medicines, dry food, tarpaulins and other materials required for temporary shelter. With several areas of Nepal facing severe disruption and communication links affected by the floods, rescue and relief operations have become increasingly challenging. Against this backdrop, India has moved swiftly to extend emergency assistance.

India’s role in disaster relief is not new. Over the years, the country has provided humanitarian assistance to nations affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. From sending rescue teams to earthquake-hit Türkiye under Operation Dost to providing food, medicines and emergency support to countries including Myanmar and Sri Lanka, India has repeatedly responded during times of crisis.

In Nepal, the immediate priority is to ensure that relief reaches people living in remote and flood-affected areas, where many families continue to face difficult conditions. India has also indicated its readiness to extend technical assistance and deploy specialised resources if required to support ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Against the backdrop of the close and longstanding ties between India and Nepal, the humanitarian initiative carries added significance. By extending timely assistance to its neighbouring country, India has once again underlined the importance of regional cooperation and humanitarian support during times of disaster.
