INDIA-CHINA TALKS: FOCUS ON LAC AND BORDER DELIMITATION

NGTV NEWS | NEW DELHI

India and China have renewed high-level diplomatic engagement over their long-standing boundary dispute, with the latest talks placing peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and progress on boundary delimitation at the centre of discussions.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks in Beijing on August 25. The discussions come amid efforts by both countries to stabilise ties after years of tension along the Himalayan frontier.

A key focus remains maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC, where differing perceptions of the boundary have historically led to friction and confrontations. Both sides have stressed the importance of established diplomatic and military communication channels to prevent misunderstandings and avoid escalation.

Beyond immediate border management, the larger challenge is boundary delimitation—the process of determining where the international boundary should run. Recent discussions have examined ways to advance this process, including possible progress in specific sectors, while continuing negotiations on a broader settlement.

The latest engagement signals a cautious attempt to move the relationship from crisis management towards a more structured dialogue. However, the boundary question remains complex, and any final settlement is likely to require sustained negotiations and political consensus on both sides.

For New Delhi, lasting peace along the LAC remains closely linked to the broader normalisation of India-China relations. The coming rounds of talks will therefore be watched closely for whether diplomatic engagement can translate into measurable progress on the ground.
