Health Sathi Audit Flags 14 Alleged Irregularities at Purba Bardhaman Private Hospital
PURBA BARDHAMAN | AUGUST 28, 2026
NEWS DESK: Serious discrepancies have reportedly surfaced during a Health Sathi medical audit at a private hospital in Purba Bardhaman, prompting the State Surveillance Team (SST) of the Health Department to issue a show-cause notice.
According to the audit findings, 14 patient-related cases allegedly showed inconsistencies between the treatment recorded in hospital documents and the Health Sathi packages blocked or claimed by the facility.
The audit reportedly found instances where treatment documented for patients did not correspond with the package claimed. In some cases, patients who had undergone surgery were allegedly shown under medical management packages, raising questions over whether alternative packages were used to claim payments.
The audit also reportedly identified cases involving post-operative treatment where the appropriate procedure-related package had not been blocked. Concerns were further raised over certain orthopaedic and surgical procedures, where the package selected allegedly did not match the treatment actually provided.
Another issue highlighted by the SST concerns a spinal surgery reportedly carried out by an orthopaedic surgeon, despite the procedure allegedly requiring a neurosurgical specialist. The hospital has been asked to clarify the circumstances and provide supporting medical records.
The Health Department has sought a written explanation along with relevant documents, including treatment records and package-blocking details. Officials have indicated that further action could follow if the hospital’s response is found unsatisfactory under Health Sathi guidelines.
The development has once again brought scrutiny on monitoring mechanisms under the state’s cashless healthcare scheme. Allegations of unnecessary admissions, prolonged hospital stays and incorrect package claims have previously raised concerns about transparency and public fund utilisation.
Health Minister Sharadwata Mukhopadhyay has acknowledged concerns over irregularities within the scheme and pointed to gaps in monitoring. Private hospital representatives have also called for greater transparency and clearer package guidelines.
For now, the focus remains on the hospital’s response to the show-cause notice. The final findings will depend on the documents, explanations and evidence examined by the Health Department.
The allegations have not been conclusively established, and any further action will follow the official investigation and review process.
