News Desk; A South African delegate visiting Delhi to attend the BRICS summit found himself in an unexpected situation after accidentally leaving a cash-filled bag inside a cab. He realised the bag was missing only after returning to his hotel. As soon as the complaint reached the Delhi Police, officers sprang into action. Within just a few minutes, the cab was traced and the missing bag was recovered.
According to police sources, the delegate had visited a shopping mall in Gurugram on Sunday. He travelled back to a hotel in Delhi by cab. After reaching the hotel, he noticed that his small bag was missing. Police said the bag contained cash equivalent to around Rs 3 lakh, including Indian currency and US dollars.
The matter was immediately brought to the attention of the hotel authorities and security officials. The police received the information at around 7:10 pm. A team from the New Delhi district, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, quickly began investigating the matter. Officers collected details about the delegate’s travel route and the cab he had used.
During the investigation, police managed to trace the vehicle. At around 7:45 pm, the location of the cab driver was identified. Officers then inspected the vehicle and found the missing bag underneath one of the passenger seats. The recovered cash was checked by the police before the entire amount was handed back to the delegate.
Thanks to the swift response of the Delhi Police, the bag was returned to its owner without any major complications. The delegate was reportedly scheduled to fly back to South Africa on the same day. Police managed to return the cash-filled bag to him approximately half an hour before his scheduled flight, allowing the foreign guest to avoid a major last-minute crisis.
The incident has assumed significance as it took place during an important international summit. Delhi was under heightened security arrangements in view of the BRICS gathering, with special attention being paid to the movement and safety of foreign delegates.
The recovery of the bag also highlighted the coordination and surveillance capabilities of the Delhi Police. From gathering information about the delegate’s route to identifying the cab and contacting the driver, each step of the investigation was reportedly completed within a short period after the complaint was received.
The BRICS delegate was ultimately relieved to have his bag, along with the cash, safely returned. He was then able to leave for the airport in time to catch his scheduled flight.
