West Bengal is likely to experience another wet day on Wednesday, with Kolkata and several other parts of the state facing the possibility of rain and thunderstorms. According to the latest forecast from the Alipore Meteorological Office, rain activity is expected to continue across the state. Some districts in South Bengal have also been warned of heavy rainfall.

Kolkata is expected to have a generally cloudy sky today. Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur as the day progresses. However, rainfall is likely to be uneven across the city, with some areas receiving light showers and others experiencing moderate rain. The northern and eastern parts of Kolkata received heavier rain on Tuesday, while southern areas saw relatively lighter showers. Similar thunderstorm activity may continue on Wednesday.

There is no indication of a major change in temperature. Kolkata’s maximum temperature is expected to be around 32°C, while the minimum may remain close to 26°C. High humidity could continue to make the weather feel uncomfortable, even when the sky remains cloudy.

Several districts in South Bengal are expected to receive rain, including Howrah, Hooghly, East Burdwan, Bankura, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and South 24 Parganas. The coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore and West Midnapore have been warned of heavy rainfall in some areas. Gusty winds may also accompany thunderstorms in parts of the region.

North Bengal is also likely to remain under the influence of rain. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur and Malda may experience light to moderate showers. People in the hills have been advised to remain alert to changing road conditions during periods of rain.

The latest forecast attributes the continuing rainfall to an active monsoon trough. The system is extending from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh through Purulia towards Digha and further in the direction of Tripura. Its influence is expected to keep rain activity active across several parts of West Bengal.

Rain and cloudy conditions had already begun in South Bengal on Tuesday. The same pattern is expected to continue on Wednesday. Although the possibility of extremely heavy rain in Kolkata is considered low, light to moderate showers could still lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

With rain likely in several areas, residents are advised to check the latest weather forecast before heading out. Office-goers, students and long-distance travellers should remain cautious, particularly during thunderstorms. People are advised to avoid open spaces when lightning is occurring.

Waterlogging may affect low-lying parts of Kolkata and roads that are prone to traffic congestion. Rainfall on Tuesday had already affected several parts of the city, and similar conditions could develop again if showers continue.

Rainfall in Kolkata may decrease somewhat on Thursday, although thunderstorms and showers could still occur during the afternoon or evening. Cloudy conditions and light rain are also possible on Friday. North Bengal may see another spell of heavier rain towards the end of the week.

Overall, West Bengal is unlikely to get a complete break from rain today. Kolkata may see cloudy skies and scattered showers, while several districts in South Bengal remain at risk of heavy rainfall. North Bengal is also expected to remain wet. Residents are therefore advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially during thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain.
