Kolkata Under Cloud Cover, Rain and Thunderstorm Chances Keep Sunday Uneasy
Kolkata is set for a humid and unsettled Sunday on September 6, with cloudy skies likely to dominate the city and rain activity remaining a possibility through the day. The latest forecast points to temperatures staying in the upper 20s to low 30s Celsius, while high humidity could make conditions feel warmer than the actual mercury suggests.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s Kolkata-Howrah forecast, the city is expected to remain generally cloudy on Sunday, with light rain likely. The forecast puts the minimum temperature around 28°C and the maximum around 35°C, although other weather services are projecting a slightly lower daytime high of around 33–34°C.

The biggest factor for Kolkata residents will be humidity. With moisture-laden air continuing over southern West Bengal, even moderate temperatures may feel uncomfortable, particularly during the afternoon. Brief spells of rain could bring temporary relief, but they may also slow traffic and create waterlogging concerns in vulnerable stretches.
The weather picture is also expected to remain active over the coming days. The IMD forecast indicates chances of thunderstorms and rain on September 7, followed by cloudy conditions and further spells of rain or thundershowers during September 8 and 9.

For commuters, the message is simple: keep an umbrella handy and allow extra travel time, particularly if dark clouds build up during the afternoon. Motorists should also exercise caution on wet roads and during periods of reduced visibility.
Kolkata’s monsoon mood, therefore, is far from over. The city may see brief breaks in the clouds, but rain-bearing clouds and high humidity are likely to remain the defining features of Sunday’s weather.
