Kolkata Braces for a Wet Saturday as Thunderstorms Remain Likely
Kolkata is set for another cloudy and unsettled day on Saturday, September 5, with rain and thunderstorms likely to interrupt normal activities. The India Meteorological Department’s Kolkata forecast indicates a minimum temperature of around 27°C and a maximum of about 33°C, with generally cloudy skies and light rain expected. Thunderstorms may also be accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
The possibility of showers remains significant through the day, with some forecasts indicating thundery showers in the morning and more substantial showers during the afternoon. The combination of rain and high humidity could make outdoor movement uncomfortable, while sudden downpours may slow traffic in parts of the city.
Across South Bengal, intermittent rainfall is expected to continue, while northern districts may experience more active monsoon conditions. Residents in low-lying areas should remain alert to temporary waterlogging if rainfall intensifies.
For Kolkata, the key message for Saturday is cloudy skies, periodic rain and the possibility of thunderstorms rather than continuous heavy rainfall. Commuters are advised to keep extra travel time, particularly during periods of intense showers.
The weather is expected to remain broadly unsettled over the coming days, with further rain and thunderstorms possible in Kolkata and neighbouring districts.
