Kolkata Braces for Another Rainy Day as Monsoon Remains Active
Kolkata: The city is set for another spell of unsettled weather on Thursday, September 3, with cloudy skies, rain and thunderstorms likely to dominate the day. The monsoon remains active over West Bengal, keeping Kolkata and its neighbouring districts under a watch for sudden showers, lightning and gusty winds.
According to the latest weather forecast, Kolkata is likely to record temperatures between 27°C and 31°C today. Periods of rain and thunderstorms are expected, with winds potentially becoming stronger during storm activity. Residents may experience brief but intense showers rather than continuous rainfall throughout the day.
The recent spell of rain has already affected several parts of the city. The Alipore weather station recorded significant rainfall over the preceding 24-hour period, bringing temperatures down but also raising concerns over waterlogging in low-lying areas.
For commuters, Thursday could bring another difficult day on the roads. Heavy showers may slow traffic, while water accumulation in vulnerable pockets could cause delays. People travelling during peak hours are advised to keep additional time in hand and remain cautious during periods of lightning and strong winds.
The weather situation is not expected to change dramatically over the next few days. Kolkata is likely to remain mostly cloudy, with intermittent rain continuing through the weekend. Several parts of southern West Bengal could also receive periods of heavier rainfall, keeping the regional monsoon situation active.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning remain the primary weather concern today. Residents are advised to avoid exposed locations during lightning activity and take necessary precautions when strong winds develop.
For Kolkata, the forecast points to a familiar monsoon equation: cloudy skies, intermittent rain and the possibility of sudden thunderstorms. While the showers may provide temporary relief from humid conditions, they could once again test the city’s drainage and traffic systems.
