The Birth of Lord Hanuman: The Divine Story of Strength, Devotion and Courage
NEWS DESK | AUGUST 29, 2026
In the vast and fascinating world of Indian mythology, few figures inspire as much devotion and admiration as Lord Hanuman. Revered as a symbol of strength, courage, wisdom and unwavering devotion, Hanuman’s birth is celebrated with deep religious significance across India.
According to Hindu tradition, Hanuman was born to Anjana, an apsara who had taken human form, and Kesari, a powerful vanara chief. He is also regarded as the spiritual son of Vayu, the god of wind, which is why he is widely known as Pavan Putra or Vayuputra Hanuman.
The story of his birth is closely connected with divine intervention. Anjana and Kesari had long wished for a child. Through divine blessings, Anjana eventually gave birth to Hanuman, who was believed to possess extraordinary powers from the moment he entered the world.
One of the most famous episodes from Hanuman’s childhood describes his remarkable innocence and immense energy. Seeing the rising Sun, the young Hanuman is said to have mistaken it for a bright fruit and leapt towards it. His extraordinary jump demonstrated the supernatural strength he possessed.
The incident also brought him into conflict with Indra, the king of the gods. According to the traditional account, Hanuman was struck by Indra’s thunderbolt, after which Vayu became deeply angered and withdrew the life-giving force of air. Concerned about the consequences, the gods intervened and blessed Hanuman with several divine abilities.
These blessings would later become central to his role in the Ramayana. Hanuman’s greatest quality, however, was not merely his physical power. His complete devotion to Lord Rama, his humility and his willingness to serve without expecting anything in return made him an enduring cultural and spiritual icon.
From temples to household prayers, Hanuman continues to represent the idea that true strength lies not only in power, but also in courage, discipline and devotion.
