CLAIM OF PM MODI’S RESIGNATION FOUND UNSUBSTANTIATED
NEW DELHI | AUGUST 29, 2026
NEWS DESK: A claim circulating about Prime Minister Narendra Modi allegedly tendering his resignation to the President of India has not been substantiated by any credible official announcement as of August 29, 2026.
Available official government information continues to identify Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India. There is no current official communiqué from the President’s Secretariat confirming that the Prime Minister has resigned or that his resignation has been accepted.
The development is particularly significant because the Prime Minister is scheduled to undertake a four-day official visit to Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic from August 29 to September 1, with bilateral discussions, trade, critical minerals, healthcare and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit among the issues on the agenda.
The resignation claim also needs to be viewed against the backdrop of a similar false claim circulated in July 2026. At that time, a purported resignation letter bearing the Prime Minister’s name was officially identified as fabricated.
Under the Constitution, the Prime Minister’s resignation has significant consequences for the Union Council of Ministers and the formation of the next government. Such a development would ordinarily be accompanied by an official communication from the President’s Secretariat.
WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS
No verified official confirmation of PM Modi’s resignation has been found.
Therefore, the claim that “PM Modi has resigned and tendered his resignation to the President” should not be presented as established news without an official confirmation.
The public is advised to distinguish between social-media claims, forwarded messages and verified government announcements.
NGTV NEWS EDITORIAL NOTE: Any further development on the Prime Minister’s status should be reported only after confirmation from an authoritative government source.
