Jadavpur University: 10,000 Voices to Sing Vande Mataram
A major Rakhi Bandhan celebration is being held in Jadavpur today, Friday, with organisers planning a 10,000-voice rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’.
The event is being presented as a celebration of social unity and solidarity. Organisers have also invoked the history of Rakhi Bandhan and Rabindranath Tagore’s efforts to use the festival as a symbol of social bonding.
At the same time, the organisers have stressed the need to strengthen nationalist sentiment at Jadavpur.
Amid the programme, Jadavpur University authorities have decided to close several campus gates as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and avoid any untoward incident.
From 1 PM to 7 PM, gates 2, 3, 4 and 5 will remain closed. Students, staff and visitors have been instructed to use Gate 1 for entry and exit.
Traffic on S.C. Mallick Road will also remain closed during the programme.
University authorities say the decision has been taken to maintain law and order and prevent any unwanted situation on campus.
The extended closure of multiple university gates is being described as an unusual decision in recent times.
All eyes are now on Jadavpur as thousands gather for the Rakhi Bandhan celebration and the planned 10,000-voice rendition of Vande Mataram.
