NEW DELHI, AUGUST 27, 2026: The education calendar enters another important phase today as IIT Madras opens the registration process for GATE 2027, giving engineering, science, technology and other eligible graduates an opportunity to begin their application for one of India’s major postgraduate entrance examinations.

The GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) is scheduled to open on August 27. Candidates will be able to apply for GATE 2027 for admission to postgraduate programmes, including MTech and other higher-education courses, while GATE scores are also used by several public-sector organisations in recruitment.

Under the revised timetable, the regular registration deadline is September 27, 2026, without a late fee. The extended registration window with a late fee will remain open until October 5. Candidates should carefully verify their academic details and required documents before submitting their applications.

GATE 2027 also brings some changes to the examination framework. IIT Madras has introduced a new Robotics and Automation paper, while syllabus and paper-code revisions have been announced for selected subjects. The examination will be conducted over six dates—February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027—with results scheduled for March 19.

For thousands of aspirants, August 27 therefore marks more than the opening of an application portal—it is the beginning of another crucial academic journey, with preparation and timely registration now firmly on the agenda.
