KOLKATA: The countdown to Durga Puja 2026 has well and truly begun—and Kolkata’s puja landscape is already offering a glimpse of the grandeur that awaits Bengal this festive season.
With Durga Puja now just about two months away, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee has unveiled an intriguing theme for this year: “Akal Bodhon”—the legendary episode from the Ramayana in which Lord Rama invokes and worships Goddess Durga before his battle with Ravana.
The theme was announced on 10, 2026, through a spectacular AI-generated cinematic conceptual video released by local page Kolkatar Golpo. And if the visual imagination is anything to go by, Chorebagan could be preparing to deliver one of the most visually striking experiences of this year’s Puja.
The conceptual presentation transports viewers into a magnificent world of golden-hued wooden architecture, terracotta-inspired carvings, traditional bells, lotus motifs and a gigantic sacred tree, creating an atmosphere steeped in mythology and devotion.
At the heart of the imagined pandal stand Lord Rama and Goddess Durga, surrounded by Ganesha, Kartikeya, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Shiva. A Bengali presenter dressed in a traditional saree guides viewers through the spectacular interior before offering prayers before the central idol.
But there is an important twist.
This is not the actual pandal.
The organizers have clearly stated that the released visuals are an AI-generated conceptual representation, created to showcase the artistic direction and imagination behind the theme. The final pandal may look considerably different when it takes physical shape.
And that disclaimer itself has triggered a lively online conversation.
While several viewers have applauded the sheer scale, creativity and cinematic presentation of the concept, others have questioned whether AI-generated visuals should be used to build anticipation before the real structure emerges.
Yet, beyond the debate over technology lies the essence of “Akal Bodhon”—a celebration of mythology, craftsmanship, devotion and Bengal’s timeless relationship with Goddess Durga.
For generations, Kolkata’s Durga Puja has transformed the city into a gigantic open-air exhibition of art, architecture and imagination. Chorebagan Sarbojanin’s 2026 theme appears determined to add another chapter to that tradition.
As preparations intensify and the city slowly begins to feel the unmistakable pulse of Puja, one thing is already certain:
